In mid-August, Administrative Assistant Mirna Wong was inspired to throw an American-style baby shower welcoming the Amini family from Afghanistan, and specifically welcoming their soon-to-be newest addition to the family! Ramina, Mujeebullah, and Neha Amini, our newest refugee family from Afghanistan, enjoyed a buffet lunch prepared by the Committee, and open many baby gifts for the new baby boy who is expected to arrive in early October. The idea of a "baby shower" was foreign to them, so the American tradition of showering a newborn with gifts had to be explained to them. When Ramina (the mother-to-be) was opening gifts, their daughter, Neha, whose first birthday was two days away, played happily with her birthday balloon. Mujeebullah, the young father, took many photos to memorialize the special occasion. With many smiles and much gratitude, the family took home a new crib, mattress, mattress pad/sheets, an infant car seat, bassinet, baby clothes, and a gift card.
