First Communion (or First Eucharist) is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation: it is the Body and Blood of Christ Himself, and food for our journey of faith.
At Santa Maria, students prepare for both First Reconciliation (making their first Confession) and First Eucharist in a 2-year program. This process involves special instructional sessions like Family Faith Formation days, prayer services, and retreats.
Typically, students receive their First Communion in 2nd Grade, and must be enrolled in a Faith Formation program for at least one year before beginning the preparation process: Kindergarten is recommended, and 1st Grade is required.
